Agents offering reward, hoping to nab poacher

Wildlife enforcement agents are offering a reward for information that leads to those who shot an eight-by-eight trophy elk and left it for dead around 2 a.m. Jan. 21 in a field near 200th Ave. S.E. in the Plateau's Wabash area.

Law enforcement officers responded to a resident's report of a gun shot and a vehicle driving off. They brought in wildlife officials.

Wildlife agent Bruce Richards said he has only seen a couple of animals like the elk in his lifetime.

"A magnificent animal should not be treated like that," Richards said.

Poaching can hold civil or criminal penalties. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact either the Washington State Patrol's Bellevue office at 425-649-4370, U.S. Forest Service enforcement department, or Washington State Fish and Wildlife at 1-800-477-6224 or wdfw.wa.gov/enf/poaching. Officials will keep calls anonymous.
