Want to learn about firearms, driving an emergency vehicle, criminal law or narcotics investigations? The Bonney Lake Police Department is offering its 10th annual Citizen's Academy, free of charge, to residents of Bonney Lake who are 18 years old or older and have no criminal history.

"This is a great way for the Police Department to interact with the public so they can learn what we do," Police Chief Bryan Jeter said. "This is a good way for people to meet the police in a neutral setting that isn't negative. It's a good myth buster and it trains people to help us out."

The course is 13 weeks long, begins Feb. 19 and meets every Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The classes offered are criminal law, police patrol procedures, 911 communications, investigations, school violence, narcotics, crime prevention, adult and juvenile justice systems, jail tours and hands on firearm and emergency vehicle operation training.

Pre-registration is required. An application is available at www.ci.bonney-lake.wa.us.

For more information, call Sgt. Jeff Miller at 253-863-2218 ext. 237.
