Mountain Meadow Elementary kindergartner Alex Gutsol and third-grader Madeline Grimm were busy hauling and raking gravel Friday morning as students, staff and parents took the first steps toward creating a safe walking route along Mundy Loss Road and 120th as part of its Safe Route to School Project. Most of the day, classrooms of students spread buckets of gravel along a swath of pathway stretching from the school's bus pick-up area, down Mundy Loss and around the corner toward White River Middle School. Earlier in the week, the school district maintenance department cleared the path. Corliss donated two dump truck loads of gravel to the project. Later in the afternoon, as part of the project, nationally-known bicyclist, writer and photographer Willie Weir presented a school assembly. After school, the PTA hosted an adopt a highway litter clean-up on Mundy Loss and 112th.
